I like the Merton quote just below. I remember standing at the cliff in the picture on the left. I recall all the people in my life and wondering how I relate to them. Them. The people who become the furniture of my existence. Them. The people who fill my life with laughter, joy, arguments and sadness. Them. The personalities that inspire me and cause me to grow. They come in all forms.
I have friends at the pub I go to that make me think and make me aware of my inconsistencies. I have friends who walk with me and make me think about how I react to certain situations. The challenge is to respect and honour those people who enter our lives and cause us to think. They are lovers, teammates, colleagues, family members, friends and they are the gifts that creation gives us.......gifts that teach us about who we will become. After all we are all becoming. And in becoming there is promise and hope. Tonight a friend at the pub offered me a slice of his gourmet pizza. It was in his offer and in the taste and zest of the slice that a moment of joy was found. You may say that this joy is much too superficial. It is not. It is the joy that humanity craves for and I am thankful. TJS
