Taking care of self.....

I often get asked about self-care. What is it? How do you do it? Are there special techniques that are best? Self-care is paying attention to how you are really feeling. You do this by slowing down and taking the time to sit quietly with no disturbances and listening to your life. Many people find breath work very helpful. Breathing in to the count of seven (filling your belly) and out to the count of seven. Just pay attention to your breath. Breath in goodness and calm and breath out any anxiety or anger you may be feeling. Some people benefit from gentle exercise like walking, doing yoga or bicycle riding. I recommend talking. Visiting with someone who you can trust and sharing what you are feeling. Obviously psychologists or certified counsellors are great but simply talking with a caring spouse, a trusted friend or a member of the clergy can help. Listen to your life and become a human being NOT a human doing.
